Yes, I am still alive. It's been a while since I've posted anything. I like to think it's mostly because I have a baby who doesn't understand the concept of a nap longer than 30 minutes. Here are some things on my mind lately:
1. Thank goodness this is Doug's last year of law school. I've decided that I am SO done with the life of being a grad student's wife. The only problem with that decision is that we still have seven and a half months until graduation. I don't know how I am going to survive seven and a half more months of this stuffy apartment, not having a yard, Doug being gone before I'm awake and home after the kids are in bed a lot of days, blah blah blah, you get the picture.
2. Another depressing thing- I'm afraid that the rainy season has officially begun. We have kissed the sun goodbye until next June. Hello clouds, drizzle and eternal grayness, I don't like you.
3. Could someone explain to me why Heavenly Father makes babies who don't sleep? Doesn't He know I cannot be a good mom when I'm running on very little sleep? I guess it's just one of those things that is supposed to smooth off the rough edges, although sometimes I feel like it's breaking me in half.
4. We have recently been introduced to something amazing. Quinoa. This is probably one of those things everyone else has known about forever that I finally just found out about, but it's awesome. It is a whole grain substitute for rice and is cram packed with amino acids, which means it has lots of protein. It is one of the best sources of protein in the vegetable kingdom, according to the National Academy of Science. Pretty cool considering we have replaced white rice with this. And the best part, Juliann LOVES it. We eat this with beans and tomatoes at least once a week.
5. Juliann has recently gotten pretty good at saying prayers. She always reminds us to pray for every meal. (She also told me we needed to pray when I got her paints out for her to paint the other day.) This morning before she ate her Fruit Loops, she said, "Pray! Pray!" So we all went over to have prayer. In her prayer she said, "Tank you for Mama, and Daddy, and Baby, and Juju, and Woody" (her Toy Story toy that was sitting on the table next to her), "and my mulp" (milk), and "Drada Tayus" (her new favorite show, Dragon Tales). She has a very thankful heart. I think it's cute.
6. I asked Doug for a Jillian Michaels exercise DVD for my birthday. He got me a great one called "Ripped in 30." That thing kicks my bum. Seriously. I've only done it a handful of times and every time I do it, I am unbelievably sore the next day, and the day after that. If I could pull myself together I'm sure I could be ripped in 30 days from that thing. It just seems unfathomable to think about doing it that much.
7. Does anyone know four students who would like to rent a cute condo in Provo, that's close to BYU and close to downtown? We really need some people to rent it out. We wasted some valuable time with a property management company who didn't tell us about one of their policies until we had been working with them for a couple of months. That policy ended up being a total deal breaker and would have been if we had known from the start. So now school has started and we still need some folks to rent it out.
8. These birds are going to make us go broke. (Or broke-er than we already are). I have to refill this bird feeder about every five days!

I can't imagine having kids without some sort of a yard. You are amazing for doing that and having a husband in grad school. You can do it!
I hope you find people for your condo! How much are you asking for it? I can keep my ears open. Also, I'm working on getting my real estate agents license and until then it's illegal for me to manage other peoples properties, but after I get it we could figure something out if you're interested. I know it's hard to take care of a property from a distance. If you want to work something out, that would be fine. If not, that's totally fine too. Just thought I'd offer.
Good luck with everything! I hope Jackson starts taking longer naps! Sleep makes all the difference!
I JUST GOT RIPPED IN 30 A FEW WEEKS AGO!!!! I love it. Except I'm still stuck on week one and I always die every single time I do it. It's insane.
Good luck with everything, I'll send you some sun from Georgia!!!
I love you!
Great post!!!! You guys hang tough. Speaking from experience, IT CAN BE DONE!!! (And, it's okay if you don't especially like every minute of it.)
Love ya!
Dad
