Wow, I can't believe we've made it past the first two weeks. I hear that those are the hardest and I hope that's true although it really hasn't been as bad as I expected. We think Juliann is a pretty easy baby. She is still eating well and sleeping pretty well at night. We took her in to the doctor a few days ago. She now weighs a whopping 9 lbs and is 21 inches long! They say that's a good sign. She had to get her heel pricked and had to get a shot at the doctor. It broke my heart. And when I pulled her bandaid off the next day, she screamed just as hysterically. I really don't like this shot thing. But Doug said to just remember that if she died from Hepatitis I would feel worse. He has a point.
All wrapped up like a burrito
Also, speaking of eating well... so far, Juliann has had very "healthy" diapers. It seems like we go through 20 diapers a day sometimes. I think she finds pleasure in waiting until she's just been changed, and then working up a huge grunt and filling up the new diaper. Another one of her favorite things to do is to wait until the old diaper has been moved away, and the new diaper is seconds from being under her hiney to relieve herself. She's done this lots of times before, but never like she did on Sunday...
It was such a nice day. Doug and I were relaxing on the couch, and I was playing with Juliann and changing a stinky diaper. She was acting just as cute as ever, wide eyed, and even showing a hint of a smile every now and then. It started with her spitting up what seemed like a gallon, coating her face and clothes. I got her all cleaned up and then moved the diaper out from under her to make the switch, when-- it happened. It was all so sudden. I heard the well known grunt almost simultaneously as a spray of yellow-brown poo shot from her rear like water from a fire hydrant, coating my hands, arms, pants, shirt, and even dabbling on Doug who was sitting at the other end of the couch. I could not believe it. I think I sat there just stunned and speechless for a little while before Doug and I busted out laughing. How could someone this cute and little and innocent do something like that??? We will probably never know. We took a picture of the aftermath to document the incident and to prove to her some day that we weren't exaggerating the story. We were worried to post the picture though, because it is pretty disgusting. You'll have to just do your best to imagine, (or not imagine.) Even so, we still are completely in love with her. It's a good thing she's so cute, or things like that would be REALLY hard to deal with.
Is that a smile?
Happy and Awake
