Newest Additions to the Family

Let us introduce our newest additions:

(Sorry, I realize the pictures are terrible, but for some reason they are the only ones I've taken so far. It probably has something to do with my phone only trying to focus on the chicken wire instead of the actual chickens.)

We are official chicken owners now! Grammie was gracious enough to give us four of her chicks and so far after about a month and a half they are all still alive. We must be doing something right. Other than a tiny baby possum we saw snooping around and the neighborhood cats checking them out, we haven't had any real scary run-ins so far. (Knock on wood). We bought a coop and run from craigslist for a pretty good deal. Doug rigged up a chicken feeder out of pvc pipe and we ordered a nifty little waterer that keeps the water fresh, clean and full for a long time. They've got a pretty good set up.

The kids named them Watermelon (she's the biggest and the bully), Daisy, Sarah and Brownie. You can probably guess which one she is. They've gotten a lot bigger since I took these pictures. Their "peeps" have officially changed to "bawks" which is pretty exciting. Juliann loves to baby them. She'll come out for long stretches of time to sing and talk to them and feed them grass and leaves. We're looking forward to some fresh eggs in a couple of months.
